Memories From a Dead Mall

The 'death' of a shopping mall refers to its capital abandonment, despite what remains of its social functions. Though they were designed with profiteering motives, malls provided communities with a [mostly] public square and comfortable place to socialize. And, when a mall 'dies' and its big businesses go, opportunities open up to design for other uses and users. Like fallen logs, 'dead' malls can provide a substrate for new life. They can become testing grounds for programmatic exploration.
